These are photos from my Photo II course, Photographing the Connecticut River, at Hampshire College, Fall 2012.
This series has been featured in both the Jonatta Gallery and at the Jerome Leibling Center for Film, Video and Photography and in a published work.
Artist's Statement:
MicroLandscapes
When out in the field, I often found myself dropping my lens from the horizon line, drawn to the quiet scenes close to my feet, whose complex and understated beauty has all too often gone unnoticed, overshadowed by the magnetic pull of the grand vistas.
In this series, I explore a variety of relationships between the tones and textures found within these microlanscapes, juxtaposing the white sand banks with the darker tones of mud and leaves at the river bottom, or contrasting smooth lines underwater with sharp edges of rocks above.
